Why am I making this?

Soaked nuts and figs blended into milk make one of the richest, most building drinks in the Indian tradition. The classical texts hold sneha (स्नेह), the wholesome fats from nuts, to nourish and strengthen, and sweet dried fruits and milk to build the body. Almonds and cashews bring healthy fat and protein, figs add calories, iron and fibre, and milk anchors it all. Offered mid-morning between meals, this fragrant, calorie-dense shake adds the concentrated nourishment a slow-to-gain child needs — in a form that tastes like a treat.

Ancient text

Wholesome nut-fats nourish and strengthen, and sweet dried fruits with milk build the body.

The classical texts hold sneha (wholesome fats, as from nuts) to nourish and strengthen, with sweet dried fruits and milk valued as building for the body. An almond-cashew-fig shake reflects that combining of good fats, sweet fruit and milk as rich, building nourishment.

Modern research

Almonds, cashews and figs are nutrient- and energy-dense, providing healthy fats, protein, calcium and iron; blended with whole milk they efficiently raise calories for healthy weight gain.

What every mother asks

Are nuts safe?
Only very finely ground — never whole or in pieces; introduce nuts cautiously and check with your doctor if allergy is a concern.
Will it help her gain?
It's one of the most calorie- and nutrient-dense drinks here and supports gain when offered consistently — no food guarantees it, and your doctor's checks matter most.
Isn't it very rich?
It is, by design — keep the serving small and between meals so it adds calories without overwhelming a small tummy.

A few honest notes

  • Whole nuts are a choking hazard — use only very finely ground nuts; introduce nuts with care and consult your doctor first if allergy is a concern.
  • Use whole cow's milk; ensure dairy is tolerated; check soaked figs for hard bits; serve fresh with supervision.
  • Keep it small and between meals so it adds to, not replaces, solids.
  • If your child isn't gaining weight despite eating, consult your paediatrician — we walk beside the doctor's care, never in its place.

Storage & make-ahead

Best fresh. Soaked, ground nut paste keeps refrigerated for a day or two (nuts can turn, so use promptly). Soak figs ahead; blend the shake to order and serve within a few minutes.
