Why am I making this?

Seeds are tiny but mighty — dense in healthy fats, protein and minerals that build a growing body. The classical texts especially prize tila (तिल, sesame) as warming, nourishing and strengthening, valued for its rich oil. Ground with pumpkin and sunflower seeds and whisked into milk, they make a nutty, calorie-rich drink that also brings iron, zinc and calcium. Offered at breakfast, this mixed-seed milk adds concentrated, building nourishment — a small glass that quietly does a great deal.

Ancient text

Sesame is warming, nourishing and strengthening, prized for its rich oil.

The classical texts prize tila (sesame) as warming, nourishing and strengthening, valued for its rich oil and building quality. A mixed-seed milk reflects that valuing of sesame and other wholesome seeds, with milk, as concentrated, building nourishment.

How to make it

A gently spiced mixed-seed milk — ground pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds whisked into warm milk with a date — is a quiet nutrition powerhouse. It brings healthy fats, plant protein, iron, zinc and calcium together in one easy, nutty-sweet glass.

What you'll need

  • 1 tsp each pumpkin, sunflower and white sesame seeds, lightly roasted and finely ground
  • 1 soft pitted date, soaked
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • A pinch of cardamom

How to make it

  1. Lightly roast the seeds, cool, and grind to a fine powder.
  2. Warm the milk, blend in the seed powder, soaked date and cardamom until smooth.
  3. Serve fresh at breakfast.

Grind the seeds completely fine — a smooth seed milk, never gritty — for little ones.

What every mother asks

Are seeds safe for young children?
Only finely ground — never whole, which are a choking hazard; sesame is an allergen, so introduce cautiously.
Will it help him gain?
Seeds and milk are genuinely calorie- and mineral-dense and support gain when offered consistently — no food guarantees it, and your doctor's checks matter most.
Can I make a big batch of seed powder?
Yes — roast and grind a small jar; keep it airtight and use within a week so the oils stay fresh.

A few honest notes

  • Whole seeds are a choking hazard — grind completely fine; sesame is a common allergen, so introduce one seed at a time and watch for any reaction.
  • Use whole cow's milk; ensure dairy is tolerated; serve warm, never hot, with supervision.
  • Keep it between meals so it adds to, not replaces, solids.
  • If your child isn't gaining weight despite eating, consult your paediatrician — we walk beside the doctor's care, never in its place.

Storage & make-ahead

Roast and grind a small jar of the seed mix; keep airtight and dry, and use within a week as ground seeds turn over time. Blend the milk fresh and serve within a few minutes.
