Oats-peanut-date shake — a hearty meal-in-a-glass for healthy gain (2–5 years)
A proper meal-in-a-glass — oats, smooth peanut and dates blended into milk, thick and hearty, the perfect filling breakfast shake.
Why am I making this?
When a child needs more, a thick oats shake works because it combines slow-release energy, protein and good fat in one filling glass. The classical texts hold well-prepared anna (अन्न, nourishing food and grain) to be the foundation of strength, taken in a wholesome, sustaining form. Oats give steady carbohydrate and fibre, peanut adds healthy fat and protein, dates bring natural sweetness and iron, and milk anchors it. Offered at breakfast, this meal-in-a-glass sets up an active morning with real, building calories.
Ancient text
Well-prepared, wholesome grain is the foundation of the body's strength.
The classical texts hold well-prepared anna (nourishing food and grain) to be the foundation of strength, taken in a wholesome, sustaining form. An oats-peanut-date shake reflects that valuing of wholesome grain, enriched with nourishing fats and milk, as a building food.

Modern research
Oats provide slow-release carbohydrate and beta-glucan fibre; with peanut, dates and whole milk they make a high-calorie, protein-rich meal-replacement-style drink supporting healthy weight gain.

How to make it
- Soak the oats, then blend with the peanut butter, soaked dates and milk until thick and smooth.

A few honest notes
- Peanut is a major allergen — give only if already tolerated, as smooth peanut butter or finely ground peanut, never whole; consult your doctor first if there's any allergy history.
- Soak oats and blend smooth; use whole cow's milk; ensure dairy and oats are tolerated; serve fresh with supervision.
- Very filling — balance with solid meals across the day.
- If your child isn't gaining weight despite eating, consult your paediatrician — we walk beside the doctor's care, never in its place.
Storage & make-ahead
Soak oats overnight to make mornings fast. Best fresh; it thickens as it stands, so loosen with a little milk and stir before serving. Refrigerate briefly only if needed.
