Methi & paneer soft rice — calcium and iron in a mild, creamy bowl (1–2 years)
Mild methi softened into creamy paneer rice — calcium for bones, plus iron and folate from the greens.
Why am I making this?
Paneer brings the well-absorbed calcium and protein bones are built from, while methi — a leafy green the classical texts value — adds iron and folate for healthy blood, and a little of its own calcium too. Cooked soft, the slight bitterness mellows into something a toddler accepts, helping ruchi, a real appetite for it. A finishing squeeze of lemon lifts the iron absorption. Bones and blood, in one gentle bowl.
Ancient text
Well-cooked leafy greens and milk preparations are praised as wholesome and strengthening.
The classical texts value cooked leafy vegetables (Shaaka varga) and milk preparations (Ksheera varga) as wholesome; methi cooked soft with paneer follows that thinking. The exact verse is being confirmed by our review panel before publication.

Modern research
Paneer supplies calcium and protein for bones; methi adds iron and folate for blood; and vitamin C from lemon improves absorption of the plant iron — three benefits in one meal.

Is methi too bitter?
Don't greens block calcium?
Do I need the lemon?
When can paneer start?
A few honest notes
- Cook methi well and serve freshly made — don't store leafy dishes overnight for a toddler.
- Dairy is a common allergen.
- Introduce methi on its own first if new.
- Keep salt modest for under-2s.
Storage & make-ahead
Best made fresh and served lukewarm; add the lemon at serving. Make fresh rather than storing leafy dishes overnight for a toddler.
