Palak-corn creamed rice — a green-and-gold bowl that makes iron taste like comfort food (2–5 years)
Creamy spinach rice jewelled with sweet corn — iron and folate in a soft, comforting green-and-gold bowl kids ask for again.
Why am I making this?
Spinach brings iron and folate, sweet corn adds colour, fibre and a gentle sweetness children love (ruchi), and a creamy base plus a finishing squeeze of lemon make the iron both tasty and better absorbed. It's comfort food doing real nutritional work — a soft green-and-gold bowl that disappears fast. Corn is a New World grain, so we place it honestly within the satmya principle.
Ancient text
Well-cooked greens are praised as nourishing and beneficial for the blood.
The classical texts value cooked greens (Shaaka) as nourishing and good for the blood; creamy spinach rice follows that, with corn (New World) placed within the satmya principle. The exact verse is being confirmed by our review panel before publication.

Modern research
Spinach supplies iron and folate, and vitamin C from lemon improves absorption; daily green leafy vegetables are recommended for iron and folate in children.

A few honest notes
- Crush or blend corn for younger toddlers to avoid choking.
- Cook greens fresh — not stored overnight for toddlers.
- Dairy is a common allergen.
- Add lemon off the heat.
Storage & make-ahead
Best made fresh; reheats with a splash of milk. Don't store leafy dishes overnight for a young child.
